Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the FocusShield mobile and desktop applications and the focusshield.co.za website (together, the "Service"), provided by Coding Wizards ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you should have a parent or guardian's permission to use the Service.

2. The Service

FocusShield helps you block distracting apps and websites during focus sessions that you configure. FocusShield is currently available free on Android, with a paid subscription required for the Windows desktop app. Support for additional platforms may be added over time. Features, pricing, and availability may change, and we may add, modify, or remove features at our discretion.

3. Accounts

If the Service requires or offers an account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at focus-support@codingwizards.co.za if you suspect unauthorized use.

4. Subscriptions and payment

• The Windows desktop app requires a paid subscription. Prices are displayed at the point of purchase and may be shown in South African Rand (ZAR) or your local currency depending on your payment method.
• Subscriptions may renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date, in accordance with the billing terms shown at checkout.
• Payments are processed by third-party payment processors; we do not directly store your full payment card details.
• Except where required by law or explicitly stated at the time of purchase, fees are non-refundable.
• We may change subscription pricing with reasonable notice; continued use after a price change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new price.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation;
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or circumvent the Service's security or blocking mechanisms other than as permitted by law;
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service;
• Use the Service to harass, monitor, or surveil another person without their knowledge or consent (FocusShield is intended for self-directed use on your own device);
• Misrepresent your identity or impersonate any person or entity when contacting us.

6. Permissions on your device

To block apps and websites, FocusShield may request device permissions such as accessibility or usage-access permissions. You can review what these permissions are used for in our Privacy Policy, and you may revoke them at any time through your device settings — doing so may prevent the Service from functioning as intended.

7. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, graphics, logos, and content (excluding your own content), is owned by Coding Wizards or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended personal purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service without our prior written consent.

8. Third-party platforms

Your use of app stores (such as Google Play) to download FocusShield is also subject to that platform's own terms and policies, which are separate from these Terms.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will successfully block every distraction in every circumstance. FocusShield is a productivity tool and is not a substitute for professional advice regarding mental health, addiction, or behavioral concerns.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Coding Wizards and its team members will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or revenue, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Coding Wizards and its team from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the app and, where applicable, cancelling your subscription.

13. Cookies

Our website uses cookies for essential functionality and, where enabled, basic analytics. You can manage your preferences via the cookie banner shown on your first visit or the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer. See our Privacy Policy for more detail.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts, except where local consumer protection law grants you the right to bring a claim in your own jurisdiction.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
